Women Do Exist...Trust Me

     Well, I hope those leftovers are eaten and have settled nicely. Buckle up... It has come to my attention (and to the attention of many other people) that six Kappa Kappa Gamma sisters at the University of Wyoming allege that Kappa's national leadership has run amok over the sorority's bylaws by "forcing" them to provide membership to a biological male. This guy is 21-years-old and tips the scales at 260 lbs. Oh, and he also has a GPA of 1.9 which is "slightly" below the sorority's cutoff of 2.7. So, not only doesn't he "follow the science" he's not that bright. AND he says he's a woman. In his interview he discussed his "desire to be near cadavers and to touch dead bodies." The women said they were forced to vote publicly and informed that a "no" vote would be a sign of bigotry and a basis for expulsion. News reports state that since joining the sorority (and I can't even believe I'm typing this) this guy has taken unwanted pictures of his "sorority sisters," asked them to describe their vaginas, and watched the girls undress. 

    I have to be honest with you...if this whole thing wasn't so frighteningly serious, I might have assumed that this was one big, stupid fraternity prank to see when the women would finally say "get the hell out!" And it would give me a chance to make fun of people from Wyoming! But alas, no. This is the world we live in. But here's what I'd like to focus on, since I've already gone down this rabbit hole before. The district court, in their infinite stupidity, ruled in favor of the KAPPA national leadership. And here, in my humble opinion, is the most important line from the decision. "Woman," the court said, is "undefined," and cannot be constrained by the circumscribed definition Plaintiffs urge." "Woman" might mean anyone who claims to be a woman, at least according to a federal court. Are you kidding me?

    Can it be that women have gone from arguing, fighting, and marching about abortion, equal pay, domestic violence, and child care, while lo and behold, the greatest threat would be for their very existence? Look, even I know that identifying oneself as a "woman" still requires an underlying definition of "woman." Just because you "self-identify" doesn't make it so, because self-identification has no boundaries and can never provide a definition. I could self-identify as a Titleist pitching wedge, but I'm still a homo-sapien! You see what I'm getting at? What the court has done is dissolved "woman" into some unknowable void or chasm. Why in the name of Aphrodite would anyone want to do that? And what's worse is that it's hugely consequential. 

    For starters, it makes language useless. Take contracts; we rely on them for all kinds of purposes. If I order some Titleist golf balls and I get a basketball instead, I can point to language in the contract to fix the problem. If Amazon, or whoever, won't fix the problem...we go to court. Nice and easy. But what's happening is, activists (to try and be nice about it) are dismantling language to make it mean anything they damn well please, and threatening social consequences for those of us who apply ordinary meaning, like oh, I don't know...this is a man, and this is a woman! Common sense goes out the window and we lose the ability to function as a society.

    And if that's not bad enough, why would you want to erase all of what makes a woman a woman? If anyone can be a woman (or a man, for that matter), than all of the things that make a woman what she is are meaningless. And the flip side of this particular coin is "Truth." The fact is...listen carefully now...Women exist. They exist as biologically distinct from men. As I've written before, it's why we have sex-specific sports as well as single-sex social and scholastic organizations. 

    Women have fought for and won suffrage, property rights, education, and protection from violence. And for some reason they now have to fight for existence? This is crazy. And if you happen to be a member of the national leadership of Kappa Kappa Gamma or the judge who wrote the words "Woman...is undefined," well, you're idiots and you're undeserving of the social standing you now enjoy.
